Taliban Sez: We Will Win, You Will Die...

CNN is at it again. I know it seems redundant to point this out, but can you imagine the NY Times conducting an interview with the Japanese Emperor to get his opinion of the War???

He won't look me in the eye, won't engage in any small talk, and looks more ill at ease than I feel.

The man in front of me is Zabiullah Mujahid -- one of two spokesmen for the Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Omar.

He is around 30, maybe a little younger, bearded, but not heavily so. He is slight but not weak and close to my height -- a little over six foot -- and meeting him is a big deal.

I've never taken meetings with Taliban officials lightly, but the stakes are getting higher these days. They kidnap reporters and worse, and just before our interview they had announced a new offensive against U.S. and NATO troops.
Higher Stakes huh? Ever walked point on patrol? Ever set up an observation post 2 miles from the Pakistan border to ambush insurgents crossing the border?

Yeah, I thought not...

Hogwash. Dan Rather interviewed Saddam Hussein when he was holding American workers as virtual hostages. The press attended and reported on news conferences held by the Taliban prior to our invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. Peter Bergin interviewed Osama Bin Laden, as did other reporters in the 1990's. Mike Wallace interviewed Ayatollah Khomeini after his take over of Iran. To say that reporters should just interview our friends and allies is rubbish. Nic Robertson happens to be one of the most highly respected reporters and has worked on a regular basis in some of the most dangerous areas of the world.

But here is the point; when you interview people, you ask them questions, not just let them talk about how we suck (and they don't), we are gonna win (you're gonna lose), Allah is great (Jesus sucked).

You become a shill for them when you don't confront them on their bullshit...

And I would expect no less from CNN, the same network that allowed Peter Arnett to say, without a shred of proof, that the US killed their own with nerve gas in Cambodia...
