Canada Sez: Burka Clad Women Must Swear Oath Before Voting...

In a reversal of past practice, people wearing face coverings will not be permitted to vote in the upcoming election unless they swear a special oath.

The change is based on a policy directive from chief electoral officer Marc Mayrand. It instructs returning officers to ask voters with obscured faces to uncover or swear they are eligible to vote before being allowed to cast ballots.

But the new policy seems to be at odds with the Canada Elections Act, which has no requirement that federal electors show their faces.

It also contradicts comments made by Mayrand before last September's Quebec by-elections when he rebuffed demands from the Conservatives to use his powers to force Muslim women wearing veils to uncover their faces.

However, John Enright, an Elections Canada spokesperson, said Mayrand's changes are permitted under the Canada Elections Act.

Afghan President Karzai Sez: Mullah Omar Can Have A Government Ministry and Protection From US Forces...

Afghan President Hamid Karzai made a fresh appeal to Taliban supremo Mullah Mohammed Omar to join peace negotiations, guaranteeing immunity from foreign forces.

His call, as a part of repeated efforts to find a breakthrough in his fight against terrorism in the country came on the first day of Eid ul-Fitr, the religious holiday that comes at the end of the Muslim month of fasting, or Ramadan.

Karzai, who often insisted that negotiating with the militants would not include Mullah Omar, changed his stance during a press conference held in his presidential palace Tuesday.

He even went to the extent of inviting the renegade leader, who is one of the most wanted persons on Washington's terrorist list, to join his ministry.

"Come to your own homeland, and construct your country," Karzai said. "Don't be afraid of foreigners; we will stand in front of them so that they don't hurt you," he added, referring to around 70,000 international troops deployed in Afghanistan.

“The U.N. has coddled brutal dictators, anti-Semites, state sponsors of terrorism, and nuclear proliferators – while excluding democratic countries from membership and turning a blind eye to humanitarian tragedies and gross violations of human rights around the globe,” Tancredo said. “The U.N.’s continued presence in the United States is an embarrassment to our nation, and the time has come for this ineffective organization to pack its bags and hit the road.”

The United Nations is hosting dictators from around the world this week, including President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran’s brutal dictator. His speech has drawn thousands of protestors in New York City.

Tancredo’s bill, dubbed the U.N. Eviction Act, would direct Attorney General Michael Mukasey to initiate condemnation proceedings against all United Nations properties within the United States, and sell the property to the highest bidder on the open market. The proceeds will be given to the Treasury Department to pay down the national debt. The bill would also bar the future purchase of property in the United States or U.S. territories by the U.N. or any of its agencies, and revokes the diplomatic privileges and immunities that U.N. officials and representatives currently enjoy

“I refuse to sit idly by while Americans are forced to host Islamofascist dictators, like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, so they can spew anti-American rhetoric just blocks from Ground Zero,” Tancredo continued.

WASHINGTON: The next U.S. president should speak out for better relations with the Muslim world in his inaugural address and pursue an accord between Israel and the Palestinians within three months of taking office, a diverse coalition of 34 former U.S. officials and civic leaders said in a report being issued Wednesday.

The proposals, which include diplomatic engagement with Iran, are designed to reverse Muslim extremism and enhance U.S. international security. They are based on the conclusion that improving U.S. relations with Muslim countries and communities is critical, the report said.

Also, it said, the new president should reaffirm immediately a U.S.commitment to prohibit all forms of torture.

Bush's war on terror, the report said, has been inadequate and sometimes counter-productive ( only to the Taliban's objectives--ed). It recommends "partnership" with Muslims committed to nonviolent political and economic development to reverse extremism and promote reform within authoritarian governments.

"Come back to the area where my helicopter was forced down, with a three-star general and three senators at 10,500 feet in the middle of those mountains. I can tell you where they are."

Biden said that Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., "says he’ll follow them to the gates of hell. You don’t have to go to hell. Just go to Pakistan. Just go to that area. That superhighway of terror that exists between Afghanistan and Pakistan."

We hadn't heard before about Biden's helicopter being forced down, so we did some Googling. In February 2008, Biden -- along with Sens. John Kerry, D-Mass., and Chuck Hagel, R-Neb. (big defeatist asshats all--ed)-- was on a chopper that made an emergency landing in the mountains of Afghanistan.

A snowstorm had forced them down.

No one was injured, and the Associated Press reported at the time that "the senators and their delegation returned to Bagram Air Base in a motor convoy, and left for Turkey.

"The weather closed in on us," Kerry told the AP at the time in a phone interview from Turkey. "It went pretty blind, pretty fast and we were around some pretty dangerous ridges. So the pilot exercised his judgment that we were better off putting down there, and we all agreed...We sat up there and traded stories."

Kerry joked, "We were going to send Biden out to fight the Taliban with snowballs, but we didn't have to do it…Other than getting a little cold, it was fine."

Didn't this fuck-head watch TV or pick up a newspaper when Hillary pulled this shit over her Bosnia trip? Remember how that turned out Joe? Better hope no one took photos.

“Obama and Biden will embrace the Millennium Development Goal of cutting extreme poverty around the world in half by 2015, and they will double our foreign assistance to $50 billion to achieve that goal,” the candidates vow in their campaign platform.

Dennett, an attorney and investigative journalist, says Bush must be held accountable for the deaths of thousands of people in Iraq — U.S. soldiers and Iraqi civilians. She believes the Vermont attorney general would have jurisdiction to do so.

She also said she would appoint a special prosecutor and already knows who that should be: former Los Angeles prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi, the author of "The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder," a new book.

"Someone has to step forward," said Dennett, flanked by Bugliosi at a news conference announcing her plan. "Someone has to say we cannot put up with this lack of accountability any more."

WHILE campaigning in public for a speedy withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, Sen. Barack Obama has tried in private to persuade Iraqi leaders to delay an agreement on a draw-down of the American military presence.

According to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Obama made his demand for delay a key theme of his discussions with Iraqi leaders in Baghdad in July.

"He asked why we were not prepared to delay an agreement until after the US elections and the formation of a new administration in Washington," Zebari said in an interview.

Obama insisted that Congress should be involved in negotiations on the status of US troops - and that it was in the interests of both sides not to have an agreement negotiated by the Bush administration in its "state of weakness and political confusion."

Though Obama claims the US presence is "illegal," he suddenly remembered that Americans troops were in Iraq within the legal framework of a UN mandate. His advice was that, rather than reach an accord with the "weakened Bush administration," Iraq should seek an extension of the UN mandate.

While in Iraq, Obama also tried to persuade the US commanders, including Gen. David Petraeus, to suggest a "realistic withdrawal date." They declined.

Obama has made many contradictory statements with regard to Iraq. His latest position is that US combat troops should be out by 2010. Yet his effort to delay an agreement would make that withdrawal deadline impossible to meet.

Why Replacing Biden With Hillary Makes Perfect Sense for Obama- Huff Po

Sen. Joe Biden's a perfectly appropriate vice presidential running-mate for Sen. Barack Obama. He's got 36 years of Senate experience, is a true intellect, a foreign policy expert, and a genuinely nice guy. But ever since Sen. John McCain added plucky Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to his ticket, the old adage nice guys finish last is beginning to take on new meaning in this year's presidential contest.

It's time to dump Biden and replace him with Sen. Hillary Clinton. I don't care how it's done. Campaign chief David Axelrod can figure that out. And the sooner the better. Because I'm starting to think that if Team-Obama doesn't do something dramatic fast, it's gonna lose this election. There's a worrisome shift in momentum and in the polls. The Palin phenomenon, while truly unfathomable to Democrats, has energized McCain's campaign and allowed him like Houdini to snatch Obama's "change" theme right out from under him. It's time to snatch it back. Conventional wisdom says replacing Biden with Clinton can't be done.

That it's too late.That it'll make Obama appear indecisive, impulsive and lacking good judgement. Many Democrats believe this would cause irreparable harm to the campaign, ringing Obama's death knell.

But this couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, it'd be a freakin' coup for Obama, and would instantly melt Palin's undeserving outsize political ice cap.

This is a monumentally stupid idea. Changing your VP pick because of polls would, despite the author's assurances, mean doom for Dems. The fact is Mondale and Ferraro received a huge bump in polls in '84 and you remember what President Mondale said about it, right?

While McCain is being labeled a sleaze and Palin a liar and even the BBQ MSM as Cesca calls them is calling out the Republicans for their tactics; while gas is over 5/gal (it is here anyway); while Lehman brothers has gone belly up after 158 years; while Greenspan has made it clear this is the worst economic crisis he's ever seen; while everything is crumbling for the Republicans, you want to suddenly turn reactionary? This is the kind of thinking that causes Dems to lose so exceptionally well and so frequently. Sticking to a plan, even a bad one gets Repubs elected and we have a good plan and a good VP candidate.

After honoring Sept. 11, residents of the Lake Meade gated community awoke the next day to find one of their American flags in pieces on the ground, burned beyond repair.

The flag, located just outside the community gates, had flown at half-staff during the day on Sept. 11, and was raised at sunset.

Between dusk of that night and about 5 a.m. Friday, someone lowered the flag, set it on fire and raised it while it was lit,according to Reading Township police officer William Ceravola, who responded to the call. Police are still investigating the incident, he said.

Some residents were not aware Friday that the incident had taken place, but others expressed outrage at the act.

“I think whoever did it, they’re a coward, and it’s unspeakable,” said resident Kristine Huff, who has lived in the community for seven years.

Huff works in the community’s guardhouse and said she heard about the incident from a coworker when she went to pick up her paycheck Friday morning.

“It’s just a shame and I can’t believe someone would have that audacity,” she said. “If they think they’re making a statement, they’re even stupider. They probably did it after midnight, so it would have made it Sept. 12.”

Khazaee said remarks attributed to Cabinet Minister Rafi Eitan by German magazine Der Spiegel this week "yet again put on display the aggressive and terrorist nature of the Israeli regime."Der Spiegel quoted Eitan as saying in an interview that while the era of Israel hunting down former Nazi officials abroad was over, "that's not to say that such operations are a thing of the past."

Asked to explain, he was quoted as saying, "It could very well be that a leader such as Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad suddenly finds himself before the International Criminal Court in The Hague." "These dangerous threats of resorting to criminal acts ... require a resolute and clear response on the part of the United Nations, particularly the Security Council,"Khazaee said.

Khazaee demanded "firm action" by the U.N. Security Council over the threats from Israel, regarded by Iran as one of its main enemies along with the United States.

"Got Hope Cash?" bumper stickers are $3 each, or two for $5. Walsh found the prices a bit exorbitant her small group.

She said she asked Obama's campaign worker again if she could get a few items for free. She pointed out that McCain's camp had agreed to send a box and, well, her 12-member Scout troop runs on a very small budget.

Walsh said the woman at Obama's headquarters put her on hold. After a few minutes, she returned with the same answer. The woman told her that she sympathized, but the Obama campaign needs every penny it can get, Walsh said. She said, 'We're up against the machine and we just can't hand anything out for free,' " Walsh said. "She was very nice . . . but I wasn't getting anything."

Obama concedes that the troop surge in Iraq has succeeded beyond "wildest dreams", but still contends the country has not had enough “political reconciliation” and Iraqis still have not taken responsibility for Iraq.

O'Reilly asked Obama if he was willing to admit he was wrong about the troop surge and Obama's response was, "I think that the surge has succeeded in ways that nobody anticipated. I’ve already said it’s succeeded beyond our wildest dreams.” (actually, I think John McCain said something about the Surge succeeding...)

The interview took place in York, Pennsylvania, where Bill O'Reilly asked Barack Obama whether he believed America was involved in a war on terror and he said, "absolutely," and when asked to name the enemies,he stated "Al Qaeda, the Taliban, a whole host of networks that are bent on attacking America, who have a distorted ideology, who have perverted the faith of Islam.”

He called the Islamic republic of Iran a major threat, said it was "unacceptable" for a rogue nation to obtain a nuclear weapon, and continued on to say, "It is unacceptable for Iran to possess a nuclear weapon, it would be a game changer,”Obama said. “It’s sufficient to say I would not take military action off the table and that I will never hesitate to use our military force in order to protect the homeland and the United States’ interests.”

LANCASTER, Pa. - Barack Obama says the United States is engaged in a "war on terror" - using the same wording as President Bush to describe the global battle against Islamic extremists.

In his first sit-down interview with Bill O'Reilly of "The O'Reilly Factor" on Fox News Channel, Obama said he absolutely" believes the United States is fighting a war on terror.

Obama said the enemy was "al Qaeda, the Taliban, a whole host of networks that are bent on attacking America, who have a distorted ideology, who have perverted the faith of Islam."

Many Democrats reject the use of the term, which the administration has used to argue for a global conflict that extends beyond national boundaries, and includes the war in Iraq, which Obama opposed and called a "dumb war."

US Magazine Brain Surgeons Decide to Run Biased Story About Sarah Palin; Lose Thousands of Subscribers......

The totally awesome part is that this is all going by word of mouth and from Old Media reports about the story.

Three celebrity weeklies — OK!, People and Us Weekly — featured Sarah Palin on their cover, but one of those magazines is reportedly losing subscribers because of it.

Us Weekly, which unlike People and OK!, chose a rather caustic cover line (“Babies, Lies and Scandal”) is said to have lost thousands of subscribers in just the first 24 hours following the printing of the issue.

“I’m hearing it’s 5,000, maybe more,” says one well-placed source in the industry. Another source claimed that as many as 10,000 readers have already cancelled their subscriptions. A spokesperson for Wenner Media, which publishes Us, says “it is completely false that we are losing 10,000 subscribers.” As for the 5,000 estimate, the spokesperson only said “that is false, too,” but wouldn’t comment further.

Five thousand might not seem like a large number at first glance, but it’s significant in the context of Us’ printing schedule. The magazine goes to press Monday night, which means subscribers don’t receive their issues until Friday or Saturday. In other words, the cancellations are coming from subscribers who, in many cases, haven’t even gotten their hands on the actual issue.

These fucktard assholes will just never get it. I love watching them squirm trying to figure out what to do.

This ordinary boy just might be the first president in the history of the United States to have a black woman sleeping at 1600 Pennsylvania, legally," Wright said at downtown Houston's Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church.

Republicans Approve New Platform Endorsing a Constitutional Amendment Supporting Life

The Republican Party on Monday approved a new platform that contains the same Human Life Amendment the GOP has advocated for years enshrining legal protection for unborn children in the nation’s Constitution. The platform also lauds the work of crisis pregnancy centers and their efforts to provide pregnant women
with tangible help and resources.

Early Monday afternoon, LifeNews.com had exclusive access as the Republican Party’s platform committee approved the final draft of the platform with little fanfare and no opposition.

After the platform committee meeting, the thousands of delegates gathered in Minnesota for the national convention signed off on the platform to a standing ovation of applause.

A spokesman for US Democratic vice presidential candidate Joseph Biden on Monday scathingly rejected an Army Radio report which claimed Biden told Jerusalem officials three years ago that he firmly opposed an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities and that Israel would likely have to come to terms with a nuclear Iran.

"This is a lie peddled by partisan opponents of Senators Obama and Biden and we will not tolerate anyone questioning Senator Biden's 35-year record of standing up for the security of Israel," Biden's press secretary, David Wade, said in a statement.

The Army Radio report asserted that Biden had expressed doubt over the effectiveness of economic sanctions imposed on Iran. The report also said Biden was against the opening of an additional military and diplomatic front, saying that the US had more pressing problems, such as North Korea and Iraq.
